Does Penmanship Really Matter?
Penmanship, you heard it before? Does it really matter in business writing? Some would say Absolutely. You remember learning to read and write in elementary school practicing and practicing for the ultimate goal of
quality style handwriting. It's important in 2017. If your not a physician (and even doctors have been ridiculed and reprimanded for bad hand writing) it says a lot about who your are as a professional and your are being judged on what your handwriting looks like.
Once I was in a corporate board meeting training session and I was selected to write on the dry erase board the list of our teams ideas or the new product launch and another team member was in charge of reading the list to the other members in the group. He couldn't read my list because of my handwriting and he remarked to the group how he thought based on my professional persona that I would have great handwriting and how he looked at me differently. He later left the company to run a pizza shop with his uncle, yet I didn't forget his remark. Every time I pick up a pen, pencil, marker, crayon or other writing instrument, I triple check to make sure it is legible because it's my professional style and someone is always watching and will judge me on it!
